The Department of Preventive Medical Sciences performs activity of formation, research and professional guidance in the various fields of the Hygiene and Public Health, of Statistics and Medical Informatic System science, Occupational Health, ENT and Foniatria.
The didactic activity is developed in the Degree Course of Medicine and Surgery and during the Degree Course of Dentistry as well as in several University Bachelor’s Degree. Post-graduate Schools of in Hygiene and Preventive Medicine, Occupational Health and ENT are annexed to the Department.
Teaching staff of the Department is also titular of several assignments of instruction in other Post-graduate Schools of the Medicine and Surgery Faculty. The interested scientific-disciplinary fields are F22A (General and Applied Hygiene), F22C (Occupational Health), F15A (ENT), F01X (Medical Statistics) and E10X (Biophysics).
Research activity takes advantage of various scientific laboratories, ambulatories and other structures where research activity and health care are carried out at the same time.
The main fields of research currently engaged comprise:
- molecular epidemiology of the infectious diseases;
- epidemiology of the chronic-degenerative diseases;
- hygiene of the hospital structures and working places;
- the repercussions on the human health of electromagnetic waves;
- the putting to surgical technical new point in ENT;
- the development of models by multimedia formation.
