Each of the six confederations sends its champions to the 2005 tournament in Germany, with the host nation and FIFA World Cup™ holders Brazil completing the eight-strong field. The field thus includes two representatives each from Europe and South America. Germany and continental champions Greece represent Europe, while from South America, Copa America runners-up Argentina accompany winners Brazil, who had already qualified automatically as world champions.
