The Unforgettable Fire - (Uscito in Ottobre del 1984) Musicalmente è caratterizzato dall'inizio della collaborazione con Brian Eno. L'arrivo del produttore ex cervello dei Roxy Music porta il sound U2 lontano dal rock classico, verso sonorità più raffinate e sperimentali. Bono ha detto "The Unforgettable Fire è stato un disco deliziosamente sfuocato, sgranato come un quadro impressionista, molto diverso da uno slogan su di un tabellone pubblicitario".
